Emperor to Speak to the Nation
We now go live to the Imperial Palace, where His Majesty the Emperor is set to deliver an address to the nation on the invasion of Paechon. Stay tuned for his address:
His Majesty, the Emperor's Address to the Nation
1st of April, 2017
1st of April, 2017
"Honored subjects, today, we face a challenge to our nation's security which must be addressed. The People's Republic of Kalasin, led by Premier Naphat Jitnukul, has shown that it will not back down and withdraw all forces from the Republic of Paechon, and indeed has, since the issuance of our ultimatum one month ago, continued its onslaught and has seized the island of Paechon. Thus, I am forced by circumstance to announce that, three hours ago, Daitōjin air assets began an attack on military targets in Kalasin and Paechon. As I speak, these attacks are still underway, while our ground forces are presently not engaged. This conflict started as a result of the dictator of Kalasin's desire for power, choosing to invade a small and helpless neighbor. Paechon, an ally of Daitō and in many like a brother to our nation, was crushed, its people brutalized. Four months ago, Naphat Jitnukul issued a challenge to us, and tonight, we give our answer.
This military action, taken in accordance with international law and with the consent of the Imperial Diet, has followed months of constant and virtually endless diplomatic activity on the part of the Empire of Daitō and numerous intermediaries. We sought reconciliation, but have been forced to conclude that Premier Jitnukul will not leave Paechon. Members of the Diet and many diplomats traveled to Pattani in a variety of efforts to restore peace and justice. Our Foreign Minister, Harunobu Okada, held a meeting in Cescedia, only to be entirely rebuffed by the Kalasinese delegation. Our nation has exhausted all reasonable efforts to reach a peaceful resolution to this conflict, and thus, we have no choice but drive Premier Jitnukul from Paechon by force, and if necessary, to bring an end to his homicidal regime once and for all. We will not fail.
As I speak to you, air attacks are underway against military targets in Kalasin. We are determined to eliminate Naphat Jitnukul's potential to unleash weapons of mass destruction on Paechon, and we will destroy much of his artillery and tanks. Our operations are designed to best protect the lives of all our personnel who will be engaged by targeting his vast military arsenal. Initial reports from General Esashi are that all operations are proceeding according to plan. Our objectives are clear: Naphat Jitnukul's forces will leave Paechon, the legitimate government of Paechon will be restored, and Paechon will once again be free. Kalasin will eventually comply with all relevant international laws and resolutions, and then, when the time finally comes, it will join in fraternity with the international community once more, thus enhancing the security and the stability of southern Aranye.
Some might ask, 'Why act now?', 'Why not wait?' The answer is clear: We could wait no longer. Sanctions, though having some effect on Jitnukul's regime of terror, showed no signs of accomplishing their objective. Sanctions have been tried for well over four months, and we have concluded that sanctions alone would not force him from Paechon. While we waited, Naphat Jitnukul has systematically raped, pillaged, and plundered the tiny nation of Paechon, which was of no threat to his own. He has subjected its people to unspeakable atrocities, the likes of which have likewise been forced upon his own people. While Daitō has waited, Premier Jitnukul has sought to add to the chemical weapons arsenal that he now possesses, and may soon seek to add an infinitely more dangerous weapon of mass destruction, the atomic bomb. And while Daitō waited, while it talked peace and withdrawal, Naphat Jitnukul dug in and moved massive forces into Paechon. While Daitō waited, while Naphat stalled, more damage was being done to many a fragile economy. Nueva Ardia, struggling in the aftermath of genocide, if this conflict is allowed to continue, may soon be dealt a killing blow to its economy, and millions more will suffer. Daitō has exhausted every means at our disposal to bring this crisis to a peaceful end, however, Naphat clearly felt that by stalling and threatening and defying us, he could weaken the forces arrayed against him. While we waited, Premier Jitnukul met every overture of peace with open contempt. While many across the globe prayed for peace, he prepared for war.
It had been my hope that when the Imperial Diet, in historic debate, took its resolute action, Naphat Jitnukul would realize he could not prevail, and that he would move out from Paechon in accord with resolutions already in place. He did not do that, and instead he remained intransigent, certain that time was on his side. He was warned over and over again to comply with the will of the international community: Leave Paechon or be driven out. He has arrogantly rejected all warnings, and instead decided to make this a dispute between Kalasin and the Empire of Daitō. He has failed. Tonight, our forces are arrayed, ready to march forth and drive him into the sea, and our air assets are now whittling away what resistance there will be. We will not fail, we will succeed, for our common, shared humanity prevents us from allowing these atrocities to continue. This the beginning of a reckoning for Premier Jitnukul, who will now have to answer for the blood he has spilled, both at home and abroad. Good night, and may the gods watch over and protect our forces and our allies."
